Chapter 10 is about polymorphism, which is another important concept associated with OOP.

Fig. 10.1 is a simple example of polymorphism. On lines 30-31 of the program, we assign a reference of a subclass BasePlusCommissionEmployee object to a super class CommissionEmployee variable. This is legal because a BasePlusCommissionEmployee object is a CommissionEmployee. Note that when we call the method toString() of commissionEmployee2 on line 34, Java actually knows that we want to call the toString() method of the subclass. In other words, when a superclass variable contains a reference to a subclass object, and that reference is used to call a method, the subclass version of the method is called, and the programmer does not need to care about all these. This is known as dynamic binding or late binding (See p.487 of textbook) because the binding (determining which method to call) is done at run time.
